Havoc Limited Edition Records
Stuart the Leader of the Arseholes once suggested that I post photos of all the limited records on the website since most of the most limited exist “only in myth.” So here is the story of all the limited edition versions of Havoc releases to date.
The Reason Why: I am a crazy record collector. I love color vinyl and limited editions. And yes, before I got into punk I collected comics and Star Wars cards so this is something that has been with me since childhood and not just a marketing scheme. I really enjoy making and collecting one of a kind records. Havoc is one of the few labels of it’s size that still assembles all the records and covers in house. I like to feel a personal connection to these records as works of art and not just “units” or product. I am a carpenter in real life and have a little shop in my garage and access to some tools and know how. I have continually experimented with different media and methods to make some pretty unique and creative limited record covers. Some have come out better or worse than I imagined, but viewed as a whole they are a representative of a pretty concerted attempt to infuse some creativity and passion into the music that I feel is lacking in a world where everything is so commercialized. I don’t know any other punk label that is going to these ends but I encourage others to get crafty and experiment.
For the most part these records were made to be sold at record release gigs or festivals. With a few exceptions they were timed to co-incide with such events. Only a few were sold through the mail and then only under some extreme circumstances. I always thought the records should be there to show appreciation to the people who come out to support the bands at gigs.
Lastly, please don’t contact us looking for copies of these records. I’ve always given the bands 20% and then sold the rest right away to cover the costs. Some of these cost almost as much to make as I sold them for, not to mention the time I put into it. There are copies around and you can maybe find some through trading. I don’t personally approve of people buying and selling these on a secondary market, but if you are the kind of person who supports this trade I’m sure there are copies for sale from unscrupulous hoarders.
