Thrash Fest 4
Thrash Fest 4, DS 13, Limp Wrist, Tear it Up, Holding On, Damage Deposit, Any Last Words, Path of Destruction, Guns Liquor Whores. Profile Center, december 29th 2003.
Originally Spazm 151 and Nine Shocks Terror were supposed to play this gig. Both bands cancelled in the last days leading up to the gig, so Guns Liquor Whores wound up playing as they were all there anyway being on the way home from their tour. I booked this show to be DS 13’s farewell gig when they told me they were breaking up. It was timed when it was because that’s when all the members had off work and school for the holidays. I don’t normally think I would book a show in Minnesota in mid winter. However, it was unseasonably warm that week to the weather didn’t dampen anyone’s spirits. This show was at Profile Center a rental hall near the U of M campus in Minneapolis. The room and PA weren’t the best, but good enough. I with this could have been at the skate park. Between 500 and 600 people showed up and all the bands were in top form. Ben Crew from Damage Deposit played guitar with his arm in a cast. Colin from Any Last Words and Damage Deposit did some sort of ill planned flying jump and broke his ankle during Any Last Words set and had to play with Damage Deposit in pain and tottering on one foot. He went from the show to the hospital. Crazy Mad Mike from St. Paul joined the Marines and went from Thrash Fest to the middle east, where he forced Iraqi prisoners to listen to Blood For Blood and Sick of It All.
Limp Wrist’s set was out of control and this turned out to be the last Limp Wrist show ever as well. I really liked the Limp Wrist LP and knowing that they were a band unlikely to do much touring I invited them to play to that lots of people who wouldn’t otherwise get the chance could see them. Martin came out in drag, dress, make up high heels the whole nine yards. They were all pretty well gussied up for the show and there was lots of nudity and ribald banter during the set. If you look at the photos from this show taken from the stage, the energy level up front is off the hook. People were really into it and having a great time. DS 13 played their swan song and it was over the top. Christoffer was pounding his bass like he was trying to kill it and there were people flying off the stage left and right. When the set was over Christoffer tore the strings off his bass and threw it down, that was the end, no encore, no comeback just the blast and then the silence. This was a pretty epic show, maybe the atmosphere was not quite as magical as TF 3 but it was still really intense, look at the photos if you doubt me.
